Over the last few weeks I’ve been sharing specifics of how to systemise different areas of your business. So this week I thought it may be worth reminding you why you should bother, with my top ten (of the many) benefits of a systemised business!
- Increased customer loyalty and retention.
You attract new customers as you become known for your consistent quality and the reliability of your service. You are so easy to do business with that your customers love you and sing your praises.
2. Increased profit.
Because you have streamlined and simplified your customer journey you are more effective and efficient. Your team are all follow your one right way to do each task, there is less duplication, less waste and fewer costly mistakes. You have developed a culture of ‘right first time’ and everyone looks for continuous improvement.
3. Improved team engagement.
You have the right people in your team thanks to your ‘right first time’ hiring system, and have given them the training and feedback they need to take ownership for their role, with confidence. There is no need for micro-managing here. Team members love being involved in simplifying the customer journey. They are instrumental in building the ‘one right way,’ for tasks, taking ownership and responsibility for improvement and delivery. They are in charge: they grow, develop and blossom.
4. Greater agility when change is needed.
When the unexpected strikes your systems give you a solid foundation – your training system and How To video guides have helped you build an agile and flexible workforce. Gone are the days when all of the knowledge about a role or a task was in someone’s head. You have built a team around you who are open to change, and make it much easier to implement. Just look at how McDonald’s have performed through lockdown as a good example of this agility in action.
5. Your business is known as a great place to work.
Trusting your people with responsibility and ownership builds their confidence and also their enjoyment in their work, which in turn leads to a happier and more satisfied team. They know that they will always receive the training and support they need to grow and develop. They know that they will be challenged to fulfil their potential, and given opportunities that will take them out of their comfort zone. Every team member knows what’s expected of them and gets on with it, and as a result the team trust and respect one another.
6. You are able to replicate for growth.
Your systemised business is a blueprint for scale, and also for franchise. Just like McDonald’s, you have the opportunity to ‘cookie-cutter’ your business and roll out from a one-site to a multi-site operation.
7. You have time to work ‘on’ your business.
Your systemised business and high performing team don’t need you around to perform well, so you finally have time to work on your business – to do all of those things that you’ve been promising yourself you’ll do, to take your business to the next level.
8. Your business is more attractive to a potential buyer.
Put yourself in a buyer’s shoes. Would you rather have a successful business that runs well with very little input from you, or one that needs you there every day to make sure things get done?
9. Your business is worth more.
Your systemised business, where everything runs like a well oiled machine; where the team take ownership and perform consistently to high standards; where efficiency is a given, and both revenue and profit are predictable; is worth way more than an un systemised, unpredictable operation, that needs you to run well.
10. You have both time and financial freedom.
You have made yourself redundant in the day to day of your operation and can focus on growth, on building a complementary business, on your family – on anything you want really – you have all the time in the world and the freedom to choose what you do with it.
So now you know the benefits, what action are you going to take to enjoy them?
I recommend you do 3 things:
