The Journey to Big Mac Thinking

Some of my earliest lessons about what it takes to make things work well came long before I ever joined McDonald’s.
They started at home, in a house where things had to work.

You see, I’m the fifth of six daughters. My dad ran a busy coal business and my mum somehow supported the business while also managing the chaos of a large family with what felt like military precision. Everyone had a role, everyone knew what was expected, and if you didn’t pull your weight it was noticed pretty quickly.

Looking back, it taught me how much easier life is when people understand how things are done and what their role is. The day runs better, people work together, and you don’t spend all your time fixing things that have gone wrong.

When I joined McDonald’s, those early lessons were taken to a completely different level.

I spent almost 30 years there, leading teams in a business built on predictable performance, that showed me what happens when clarity and shared standards are part of everyday life. Everyone understands the way things work, everyone plays their part, and because of that, the whole operation runs with a level of consistency most businesses only dream about.

Later, working with scale-up businesses, I saw something very different.

Talented, ambitious leaders with good people around them, all working incredibly hard, but without the clarity and shared way of working that makes consistency possible. Everything depending on the owner, the best manager, or whoever happens to be holding things together that week.

Big Mac Thinking was born to bridge that gap, taklng what I learned inside a world-class global brand and adapting it to fit what growing businesses actually need if they want to scale without the stress.

Today, I live the life I speak about, running a business that gives me the freedom to ride my horse, walk my two crazy spaniels, choose the work I say yes to, and speak on stages like yours maybe. That freedom isn’t luck. It’s built on strong foundations.

And that’s what I help other leaders create.

When I’m on stage, I’m not there to impress. I’m there to inspire action, sharing real stories, practical lessons and simple strategies leaders can take away and use immediately.

If your audience wants more control, more consistency, and more time to actually enjoy the success they’re working so hard for, I’d love the opportunity to show them how to build it.
